Orange Cameroon to spend $244m to bolster service

Orange Cameron pledged to spend CFA150 billion (US$244 million) to upgrade its network over the next five years, as the operator aims to support the surge in data traffic on its network.

Orange Cameroon CEO Patrick Benon said a first instalment of XFA30 billion will be approved this year which will be used to improve quality of service, reported Business in Cameroon.

The chief executive noted data traffic had increased by 40% in 2022, which consequently means the operator will have to make regular investments to maintain service quality.

Benon said the operator’s plan is pointed towards “securing, extending and modernizing the network infrastructure, with a strong focus on digitalisation".

He added Orange had made “firm commitments” to the Telecommunications Regulatory Board on improving service quality this year but did not share any more detail.

Benon went on to warn that real change to service quality can only be achieved through operators partnering up.

“There are points on which Orange Cameroon must work collectively with other operators. Sometimes, especially on issues of fibre optic transmission, we depend on other operators. Hence the need to work together to improve quality," he said.
