Latvia’s regulator SPRK (Sabiedrisko Pakalpojumu Regulesanas Komisija / Public Utilities Commission) has announced that it will hold auctions next month for 700MHz 5G-capable spectrum.
TeleGeography reports that three 2×10MHz blocks in the 700MHz range will be available for bidding, with the reserve price set at EUR2.2 million (US$2.5 million). These licences will be valid for 20 years (expiring January 2042). Two 1×10MHz blocks will also be available, with a reserve price of EUR150,000. These will have a shorter validity period (February 2025 to January 2042).
Speaking on the available 700MHz frequencies, SPRK Chair Alda Ozola said: “This frequency band is important for the development of 5G networks, as well as electronic communications network services and competition in Latvia. The benefits will be felt by users as well as other electronic communications merchants, receiving faster internet download speeds and better coverage in the country.”
SPRK has set the auction date for 16th December 2021.
