Romania confirms 5G auction bidders while Montenegro opens applications

Romania’s National Authority for Management & Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) confirmed that three operators have applied to bid in its upcoming multi-band spectrum auction.

Orange Romania, RCS&RDS (DIGI) and Vodafone Romania all submitted applications ahead of the 17th October deadline, and will now be able to bid on the available 555MHz of airwaves across the 700MHz, 1500MHz, 2600MHz and 3400MHz-3800MHz bands.

Fourth player Telekom Romania Mobile Communications declined to apply. CommsUpdate reports that ANCOM will confirm the participants by 4th November, with the auction slated to begin on 8th November.

Auctions are also afoot in Montenegro, with the country’s Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (EKIP) opening its application process. Interested parties have until 28th November to register for the auction, which is planned to begin between 19th and 23rd December.

Spectrum in the 700MHz, 3.6GHz and 26GHz bands will be up for grabs. The regulator expects to issue final approvals for the licences in February or March 2023.
