Internet Exchange operator AMS-IX has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MainOne’s Lagos data centre, MainData Nigeria (MDXi).
Under the arrangement, AMS-IX will set up an internet exchange at MDXi, with the carrier-neutral data centre acting as a strategic partner and reseller for AMS-IX in West Africa. The partnership will deliver improved interconnection capabilities for existing and new customers on the exchange, further facilitating the distribution of content into the West African region.
The agreement will allow content delivery networks, application providers, and hosting companies to exchange internet traffic locally through MDXi’s interconnected ecosystem of networks, operators, large enterprises, and cloud service providers.
Onno Bos, International Partnership Director of AMS-IX, said: “Lagos is the ideal location to serve as a content hub for West and Central Africa as it is strategically located in a fast-developing region with landing sites for international subsea cables connecting Africa to EMEA and beyond.”

The partners intend to seek alliances to connect with local telecom operators and internet exchanges to help develop and support local ecosystems.
