stc Bahrain has launched a 5G Standalone network which it claims marks a first for the Kingdom.
The operator collaborated with China’s Huawei for the construction and deployment of the network. stc claims that the standalone 5G network will enable new communications for consumers and enterprises through ubiquitous connections and high computing capabilities.
Standalone 5G is not reliant on the 4G layer or the LTE network, and thereby can enable higher complexity 5G eMBB, URLLc, and mMTC services categories. According to stc, the network will support public services such as security, transportation and banking, and enterprise services such as manufacturing, healthcare and education.
The operator’s CEO Nezar Banabeela said that the network was “laying the foundation for further milestones, service availability and inclusivity of the fundamental capabilities that is included in stc Bahrain network to cover all the forecasted 5G network use cases.”
