The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) revealed 96% of the country’s mobile sites have been repaired after the country was devastated by heavy flooding.
In a statement, the PTA detailed that at the peak of the floods 3,386 sites were down at the end of August, however, 3,251 are now back online with 135 still offline.
The PTA partnered with operators, civil and military authorities to carry out repairs to damaged telecom infrastructure.
Non-functional sites are inaccessible for repair workers and are located in parts of Balochistan and Sindh. However, those locations are not experiencing communication blackouts due to other operational sites in proximity.
Over 120 communication cuts occurred to Pakistan’s optical fibre backhaul in multiple flood-hit areas. Now the entire network is back online.
