Thailand’s True Move will deploy ZTE’s 5G RAN equipment in its nationwide tri-band network.
ZTE confirmed that it is supplying True Move with macro 5G base stations as well as single and multi-band indoor cell sites, which will offer coverage across the 700MHz, 2.6GHz and 26GHz frequency bands.
Thailand held a multi-band 5G spectrum auction in February this year, during which True Move obtained 90MHz of 2.6GHz spectrum and 800MHz of 26GHz spectrum, on top of its existing 10MHz block of 700MHz spectrum. In March, the operator began delivering commercial 5G services via the 2.6GHz band.
True Move and ZTE have an existing relationship with regard to 5G, with the two companies conducting tests throughout 2019 on technologies such as dynamic spectrum sharing and 64-channel Massive MIMO.
Market leader AIS began offering 5G services in February this year, and is believed to be finalising a core network suppliers’ agreement with several vendors including Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, Samsung and ZTE.
Rival operator dtac has not launched a 5G offering, but recently announced that it would use equipment from Nokia to do so.
